We know 2015 just started… but the team here at EHS Insight are already looking forward to 2016.
Why, you ask? Because the new occupational health and safety ISO 45001 Standard will be published!
What is it?
Many organizations benefit from internationally recognized standards like OHSAS 18001 because they provide the framework for a health and safety management system. ISO 45001 is a new, revised version of OHSAS 18001 that will help align health and safety management practices from all over the world to better protect workers and reduce risks while sharing best practices.
When a standard like ISO 45001 is accepted and implemented, organizations can more easily vet suppliers and contractors who provide services. This allows for all areas of operation to continue functioning within their stated health and safety policies and goals.
What to look for next
The committee draft of ISO 45001 has already been published and is available for sale. For more information please visit http://www.iso.org/iso/home/news_index/news_archive/news.htm?refid=Ref1874.
The Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) will be coming out later this year. The new International Standard (ISO) will be published by the end of 2016. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process so keep checking back for the latest information.
