Lowell Treatment Center, a Boston-based behavioral health facility, is facing $207,690 in proposed fines from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
In an investigation conducted by OSHA, health and safety inspectors found that Lowell Treatment Center employees were prone to workplace violence, given the nature of the psychiatric health care facility. During a follow up inspection on Jan. 5, 2017, OSHA cited the facility for failure to implement a workplace violence program. The facility was also cited for failure to record workplace incidents.
"Our inspectors found that employees throughout the Lowell Treatment Center continued to be exposed to incidents of workplace violence that could have been greatly reduced had the employer fully implemented the settlement agreement," said Galen Blanton, OSHA's regional administrator in Boston.
