Safety Tips for Your New Year's Eve

New Year’s Eve is the time of year when we celebrate all the accomplishments of the past year and look forward to a successful coming year. Many people go out to celebrate and countdown to the New Year, and it’s important to be safe when doing so. A few safety tips can go a long way to help you ring in the New Year without any major glitches.

If you plan on consuming alcoholic drinks, it’s important to arrange your transportation beforehand to avoid drinking and driving. Nothing ruins a celebration faster than possible legal trouble for putting your life and the lives of others in danger. Seek out a friend to be a designated driver or leave your vehicle at home and arrange to have a cab or an Uber driver pick you up and take you home.

Another safety tip is to keep communication open whenever possible. If you are meeting friends at a specific location, be sure to map the location ahead of time to avoid getting lost. Let someone close to you know where you'll be for the evening in case of an emergency, and make sure your mobile phone is fully charged when you leave home.

If going out to celebrate isn't your style, you can always opt to host New Year’s Eve at home in the company of close friends or family. This ensures you will not end up in a potentially unsafe situation, and your guests will thank you for your hospitality if they're unable to drive and you allow them to stay overnight. Remember, there is no pressure to celebrate in a public place with a crowd of strangers, and you can have just as much fun in the comfort your own home.

Have fun, be safe, and we'll see you in 2016!
