North American Occupational Safety and Health Week

According to the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), 4,679 people lost their lives on the job in 2014. During North American Occupational Safety and Health Week (NAOSH), ASSE works with its partners to raise awareness on workplace health and safety.

Launched in 2007, NAOSH Week is promoted by three organizations - ASSE, Canadian Society of Safety Engineering and the Interdisciplinary Association of Occupational Health and Hygiene of Mexico. During this week, organizations can participate in a variety of events and activities to foster health and safety best practices. Some health and safety activities include:

    • Training new and existing employees
    • Partnering with local businesses and schools to promote health and safety in the community
    • Promoting North American Occupational Safety and Health Week within your organization
    • Meetings with staff to discuss new ways to improve your current safety program

This week should also be a reminder for organizations to promote safe work practices year-round. As a workplace leader, you must continuously encourage employees to follow health and safety standards. This is just one of many ways that will help you strengthen your safety culture.

Visit NAOSH to get a complete list of health and safety activities and events.
