A Safety Program Built to Scale

When Jason Conley joined Apex Clean Energy as Director of Health & Safety in 2022, safety reporting ran entirely on paper. Within months of partnering with EHS Insight, teams across the United States, from field operations to development, were reporting incidents and safety observations digitally, in real time.

The Challenge

Apex Clean Energy managed EHS compliance on paper, including incident reports, safety observations and management of change. As the company grew past 150 employees, those manual workflows couldn't keep up. A previous software vendor couldn't deliver the customization Apex's field teams and facility managers needed, so the company went back to the market.

The Results

Apex signed in January and had its operations team live in May, so safety observation and incident reporting were running in the field in 4 months. By the end of the year, all 429 employees had access, as the company continued to grow.

Apex is now expanding into audits and inspections, chemical and SDS management, training, sustainability reporting, and AI Copilot metrics tracking, all on the same platform.

EHS Insight's AI in Action

Working with EHS Insight's customer success team, Apex built a custom "Hurt Rate" metric that tracks every injury, whether or not it's OSHA-recordable. The safety team now pulls that metric through EHS Insight's built in AI for monthly leadership reports.

Instead of checking numbers by hand, the team uses AI to spot trends. That has changed how Apex finds and communicates risk.
